Primary school puts green acoustics on the schedule

Schools are not exactly known for silence and quiet surroundings. Quite the contrary. But Skovshoved School in Gentofte Municipality has done something about it. The school has chosen green acoustic solutions, which make the surroundings much more comfortable to move around in. In addition, the green color creates life, joy and increased creativity.

"Shhh!" and "ten silent!" are phrases that are often repeated in schools across the country. Tranquility in the classrooms is important for learning. But also common areas are important to include in the equation when talking good sound environment - and not least work environment.

Skovshoved School in Gentofte Municipality has experienced this. That is why they have chosen to clad ceilings, walls and even cupboards in green acoustic panels:

"The school consists of a large common area with four rooms, which can accommodate up to 700 students and teachers. Here there is both club, theater, canteen, morning singing and other activities, where the sound level can quickly become very high. Yes almost unbearable, if not it is handled properly. So it only makes good sense to upgrade the rooms with acoustic solutions ", says Thomas Krogh Jørgensen, who is a building designer and owner of the architectural firm tegne-stuen.

the drawing room is behind a minor renovation of Skovshoved School - including an upgrade of the large common area, which is now better geared to the many students and teachers who are back after several months of online teaching.

Green surfaces boost creativity

Vibrant colors such as green and yellow were already part of the school’s decor. Therefore, it was a great wish on the part of the management that the new acoustic solutions should be continued in the same color theme:

"The green color gives something very special to the rooms. It reflects life and happy days. And then it boosts the creativity that the school is characterized by. It ultimately helps to increase learning. I think we are dealing with a completely ideal solution that benefits both design and functionality ", explains Thomas Krogh Jørgensen.

To find the right solution, the drawing room entered with the construction company Alpha Akustik. Co-owner and acoustics consultant Ole Vestergaard says: "We teamed up with the drawing room and knew that if we were to install green acoustic panels that live up to the requirements, we would have to get hold of Rockfon's products in mineral wool. They live up to the aesthetic and functional At the same time, they could deliver on time at the right price.

- There are great demands on the acoustics when we talk rooms with so many people - most of them children. In order to capture the sound properly, there must also be solutions at head height. We have taken this into account

Good acoustics during emergency care

The acoustically optimized rooms are almost finished, but it was a somewhat different journey there. This is because the school has been completely and partially closed down and the craftsmen had to take special measures due to COVID-19: "I would be lying if I said that it had not been a challenge with the new corona reality. There was "of course some restrictions from both the authorities and the school, which we had to deal with. Among other things, we had to shield work areas with ribbons and keep two meters away. It is not always easy when building", says Thomas Krogh Jorgensen. "But it has exceeded all expectations. All parties involved have been extremely flexible and patient. At the moment, the premises are used for emergency care, among other things, so it is great that the optimized acoustics can already make a difference." , he concludes.
