Mould and mildew resistant properties

Mould can find a fertile ground to grow in a damp, organic surface. As the mould grows it can not only damage building materials and an undesirable visual effect, but exposure to it can also have a potential health effect on people too, causing skin and respiratory infections.⁽¹⁾

Because our stone wool ceiling products are not organic, they do not promote the growth of mould or bacteria, keeping people safe and healthy. Through their inherent composition, there is no need to have additives such as fungicides or antimicrobials to achieve these mould-resistant properties.

Ceiling sag? No thanks!

With some acoustical ceiling tiles, humidity poses a problem as it can weaken the structure of their materials and cause them to sag, drooping beneath their ceiling suspension system. In extreme cases, sagging ceiling tiles may even fall out of their grid. This tends to happen in buildings under construction, where the space is not yet temperature-controlled and humidity-controlled, or materials have not yet dried.

Hydrophobic ceiling tiles and panels

Stone wool is a hydrophobic material, meaning it repels water and does not hold any moisture. This makes our stone wool ceiling panels not only humidity-resistant, but also sag-resistant. Even in consistently “wet” rooms like kitchens, restrooms, etc., there is no risk of sagging as they remain entirely stable even up to 100 percent relative humidity (RH) and in temperatures ranging from 0 to 40 degrees Celsius.

This means that our ceiling panels can be installed in the early stages of construction without any risk of sagging. Our moisture resistant acoustical ceiling tiles characteristics remain unaltered over time, maintaining their shape and physical characteristics throughout the entirety of a building’s lifecycle.
