Your sustainable building partner

Construction and demolition waste produces approximately one-third of all waste in the EU, much of which ends up in landfill (1). Here at Rockfon, we know that it doesn’t have to be this way. We are not only conscious about the waste volume in our industry, but we are committed to do our share by taking responsibility for our own waste and trying our absolute best to minimize that.

The raw materials of our acoustic solutions are natural and abundant, so you can be confident you’re supporting the environment across the entire cycle – from improving human wellbeing to helping the planet. Rockfon uses natural stone, we recycle as part of the circular economy and commit to reducing our carbon footprint every year. Because we don’t think the next generation of acoustic solutions should be at the expense of the next generation of people.

We are taking a lifecycle approach, and we look into all the stages of our products' lifecycle for possible improvements.

Closed loop recycling

In a circular economy, products should be used for as long as possible, and reused or recycled to the greatest extent possible when they reach the end of their service life. That’s why our products are designed to be durable and long-lasting, and can be easily removed when a building is renovated or demolished, which allows for recycling back into new products. In fact, our stone wool products can be recycled an infinite number of times without any effect on their quality.

Right now, Rockfon also offers recycling options for customers in our key European markets, and we have a plan of expanding that service to even more countries in the coming years. This allows our customers to return old stone wool ceiling tiles or cut-offs from the installation phase for recycling in our factories, which both reduces the consumption of materials and saves waste from going to landfill.

How upcycling transforms waste into value

Although our stone wool products are made from one of the planet’s most abundant raw materials, we also strive to make better use of the planet’s alternative resources. Due to the design of our stone wool production, we can utilise waste that might otherwise be landfilled. In fact, our average stone wool product is made of approximately 40 percent recycled material, according to ISO 14021.

Our technique of combining an abundant raw material such as stone wool with upcycled waste materials from other industries that have few recycling options, is why our products are a natural fit for the circular economy and sustainable buildings of the future.

Cradle to Cradle Certified®

Driven by our commitment and philosophy to make products that positively impact people and the planet, we have chosen to certify our acoustic solutions under the Cradle to Cradle Certified Products Program. In the program’s category of product circularity, our solutions achieved Gold level status, which is proof of our great circularity story and the fact that we have truly circular products.
