The Health & Hygiene of Stone Wool
Materials are one of the foundations of healthier buildings.
Because stone wool has no nutritional value, it helps create spaces that stay dry, fresh, and hygienic – even in demanding conditions.
Mould & Bacteria Resistance
Mould forms when airborne spores settle on damp, organic surfaces.
Stone wool has no nutritional value, so it cannot feed mould or micro‑organisms – and it doesn't require added fungicides or antimicrobials to stay resistant.
Safe Handling
Made from naturally occuring volcanic rock, stone wool fibres are bio‑soluble, meaning that if inhaled, the body can dissolve them without health effects.
Stone wool causes no chemical irritation and poses no risk to human health, though gloves can help minimise temporary minor itching.
Cleanability
The majority of our stone wool products can be easily cleaned with a vacuum cleaner fitted with a soft brush attachment.
In spaces where infection control is a major priority, our specially treated medical and hygienic ceiling solutions have a durable, highly water-repellent surface that allows for cleaning with water and select diluted disinfectants.
