The new Linnaeus University offers a city pulse, large areas, and good acoustics

The university of 65.000 square meters was constructed by Skanska and is LEED Gold certified. That is to say, the university meets high demands in terms of energy consumption and indoor environment. The overall focus for the entire project is the choice of smart, modern, and sustainable solutions. To ensure comfortable acoustics in the different types of rooms, Rockfon has been chosen as one of the suppliers.

Modern and future proof

“The new Linnaeus University is the definition of what can be called a modern university for students of the future. All details were carefully selected and followed a clearly defined design concept,” says Per Becker, project buyer at Skanska. He continues:

"When it comes to acoustics, there are many large open areas here, which can be a challenge. To ensure a good sound- and study environment, we have chosen several acoustic solutions. One of them is an acoustic ceiling from Rockfon.”

Flexibility governs the road

When designing a university environment, it is important to think in flexible solutions and in orientability. When society changes, the university must be able to adapt accordingly. That is the opinion of the architect Linda Camara, at Tengbom, the architectural firm behind Universitetskajen Östra. She says:

“It is important to consider how to stay flexible over time and that it must be easy to adapt to the changing university programs. It is intended to create the possibility for both planned and spontaneous meetings to take place everywhere.”

“However, this places great demands on the acoustics. With Rockfon, we have been able to tailor the solutions; change the colour of both grid systems and tiles; adjust the size and format. This has been of great value to us as the suspended ceilings are very important.”
