Whether for a hospital, school, or office, fire performance is an important part of ceiling specification. However, the term “fire-rated ceiling” can refer to two different requirements: Reaction to Fire or Fire Resistance.
Reaction to Fire describes how a material or system contributes to the development and spread of fire, particularly during the early stages when evacuation is crucial. The majority of Rockfon ceiling solutions achieve the highest Euroclass reaction-to-fire classification, A1, thanks to their non-combustible stone wool. This means they do not contribute to fire growth, produce smoke, or create flaming droplets.

The reaction-to-fire classification for each product is published in its Declaration of Performance (DoP) and is based on testing in accordance with the relevant European standards.
Fire Resistance is a different requirement. It measures the ability of a material or, more commonly, a complete building system to resist and ideally prevent the passage of fire from one distinct area to another for a specified period, such as 30, 60, or 90 minutes. Where fire resistance is required, the performance of the complete ceiling construction must be assessed against the relevant test standard.
Along with fire performance, suspended ceilings may need to meet requirements for acoustic comfort, durability, hygiene, and design flexibility. Rockfon ceiling solutions offer high sound absorption, with the majority achieving Class A sound absorption, as well as a wide choice of formats and finishes.
