Optimised Acoustics for a Police Training Centre

Rockfon ceilings support clarity and resilience across Vejle’s new police academy with tailored solutions for learning, training, and common areas

Police Academy Design | Case Studies

Spacious and light-filled, the atrium at Vejle’s police academy features Rockfon acoustic ceilings to support comfort, clarity, and daily activity.

Training future police in an improved soundscape

The new police academy in Vejle combines 9500 square-metre of new construction with renovated existing buildings to form a unified education centre. With facilities for both theoretical learning and physical training, the academy integrates Rockfon acoustic solutions across multiple spaces. Designed by ERIK Architects, the project prioritises wellbeing, functionality and a cohesive identity to support student performance and day-to-day use.

Acoustic design tailored to every space

The new 20 000 square-meter police academy in Vejle brings together two renovated buildings and a new central structure. With teaching, training and living facilities, the design supports both practical and academic learning.

Each building has a distinct history and function. The design team used a unified material and colour palette to ensure consistency across façades and interiors, creating a visually-connected campus.

Inside, ceilings played a key role in shaping a calm, focused learning environment. Rockfon acoustic solutions were selected to meet the needs of each space, from formal teaching zones to physical training areas.

In shared spaces like the atrium and canteen, Rockfon Sonar X with a concealed grid system offers optimal acoustic control. In classrooms, Sonar M delivers similar sound performance in a modular layout.

The training zones required impact-resistant panels. These durable products also support good speech intelligibility by reducing reverberation and echo from hard surfaces and high ceilings.

The team also used colour to support wayfinding. Meeting rooms feature bright yellow walls and Rockfon ceiling panels, adding personality and helping guide visitors through the building.

All acoustic decisions were guided by a consistent design approach. The result is a robust and future-ready teaching environment that enhances focus, wellbeing and functionality.
