From corridors to operating theatres, Rockfon MediCare systems across the hospital maintain quiet, hygienic spaces essential for patient care.

Designing healthcare spaces with acoustic precision

Scotland’s Forth Valley Royal Hospital consolidates services from Falkirk and Stirling into a £300 million facility with 860 patient spaces. Installed extensively across 82 000 square metres, Rockfon MediCare ceilings ensure acoustic performance, hygiene, and adaptability. Laing O’Rourke and Linear Projects delivered an environment that supports patient well-being and modern healthcare standards.

Rockfon MediCare tiles meet strict hospital demands

Linear Projects Ltd of Glasgow and Manchester, a Rockfon Active Installer, installed a total of 82 000 square metres of Rockfon MediCare ceilings, including 60 000 square metres of standard 600x600mm and 1200x1200mm tiles with 24mm grid in all general use areas, wards, offices, and meeting rooms.

In the corridors and circulation zones, Rockfon MediCare Plus was used in a 2400x600mm plank format. Standard tiles with 24mm Enhanced Corrosion Resistant (ECR) grid were chosen for the en-suites, showers and general wet areas, as well as kitchen areas.

“Rockfon were able to rationalise the tile specification and meet the needs of the Forth Valley Board and Laing O’Rourke without compromising on quality, value or service", explained Stephen Holmes, MD at Linear. "Whether it was adapting their Rockfon MediCare system to Radiology Suites or wet areas, Rockfon always offered the best solution to the client.”

The Rockfon MediCare range is designed to meet the needs of today’s modern hospitals and healthcare facilities. HTM 60 compliant in categories 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, it has recently been enhanced and now offers three levels of performance to meet the needs of various risk zones, including low-risk areas such as administrative offices and waiting areas through to high-risk zones such as intensive care wards.

As with all other Rockfon solutions, Rockfon MediCare has no nutritional value without sustenance to micro-organisms, including MRSA, thanks to its noncombustible stone wool core. The range also has a low particle emission resulting in a Clean Room classification of ISO Class 5. The standard Rockfon MediCare tile can be cleaned with a vacuum or dry cloth, while Rockfon MediCare Plus and Rockfon MediCare Air can be disinfected by steam cleaning.
