An Innovation Centre for the Life Sciences

The new hub for the life sciences features the acoustic ceiling solutions Rockfon Mono Acoustic and Rockfon Blanka for comfortable, bright spaces.

Forskaren Science Hub Stockholm | Case Studies

Forskaren is characterised by circular forms, natural materials, and Rockfon acoustic ceiling solutions that support comfortable interactions.

Spaces designed for interaction and acoustic clarity

At the heart of Forskaren Science Hub is a striking circular atrium, formed by concentric rings and recessed balconies. “Forskaren is designed to encourage collaboration and innovation. The open, flexible workspaces and common areas promote interaction and the exchange of ideas, making it a hub for creativity and progress”, explains Christian Wamberg Rasmussen of 3XN Architects.

A sculptural spiral staircase rises through the atrium, becoming both a focal point and the primary circulation path. Across the interior, subtle differences in materials, colours, and furnishings introduce playful character. Wooden panels and abundant greenery contribute to a calm, biophilic palette, echoing the building’s sustainable ethos.

Rockfon Blanka acoustic ceiling tiles were installed in the laboratories, offices, and meeting rooms. “Natural lighting and high-quality acoustics play a crucial role in creating healthy, comfortable environments that foster productivity and satisfaction. Rockfon Blanka's exceptional light reflection was a key factor in our decision-making", says Christian Wamberg Rasmussen.

Rockfon Blanka’s 87 percent light reflection and over 99 percent diffusion maximise daylight, reducing reliance on artificial lighting. In the circular atrium, Rockfon Mono Acoustic creates a seamless, monolithic ceiling while optimising acoustics for gatherings and movement through the space. Like Rockfon Blanka, it reflects natural light to enhance brightness and visual appeal.

All acoustic solutions chosen for Forskaren meet Swedish Building Material Assessment standards. The Rockfon solutions installed contributed to the building’s achievement of both LEED Platinum and WELL Platinum certifications, supporting health, sustainability, and high performance.

Since opening, Forskaren has earned significant recognition, including the Best Office award at the World Architecture Festival 2024. The hub stands poised to become a centrepiece for Swedish science, healthcare, academia, and business, embodying innovation and sustainable design.
