Sound and style for a small retail renovation

Efes Barbers in Glasgow underwent a full interior makeover during the 2020/21 lockdowns, supported by a local council grant. Owners Ali and Mojtaba chose Rockfon Color-all in Concrete to complement their warm, wood-panelled interior while addressing acoustic challenges caused by hard surfaces and music. The ceiling upgrade helped create a space that is both social and serene. It reflects the team’s vision for a modern Iranian barbershop.

Acoustic performance for a personal business vision

During a full interior renovation, Efes Barbers focused on creating a space that aligned with its identity and enhanced the customer experience. The owners were inspired by classic barbershop aesthetics, warm timber tones, and personal touches rooted in Iranian heritage.

The redesign included wood-panelled walls, custom black lighting fixtures, and integrated media. However, sound from mirrored surfaces and in-shop TVs made conversations difficult and led to unwanted echo.

To address this, Rockfon Color-all tiles were installed in the ceiling. The Concrete colourway was chosen for its compatibility with the shop’s interior finishes. The tiles provide Class A sound absorption, reducing reverberation and improving speech clarity.

Ali had discovered Rockfon Color-all through a Facebook ad and explored finishes using the Rockfon Colours website. The ability to coordinate colour and performance made it a practical fit for the project

The installation was made simple by retaining the existing grid, helping to reduce waste and cost. Jim Lundy, Area Sales Manager for Scotland, supported the project by recommending the best product fit. He highlighted the value of helping independent retailers improve customer experience through practical, design-conscious acoustic upgrades.

The new ceiling has helped transform a compact retail unit into a calm, well-balanced space where interior style and acoustic comfort work together.
